From the soaring skyline of Lower Manhattan to the elite areas of the Upper East Side, New York City has again claimed its title as the richest city in the world. According to the latest report by Henley & Partners in partnership with wealth intelligence firm, New World Wealth, the Big Apple leads again in 2025 with 384,500 millionaires, 818 centi-millionaires worth at least £73.5 million ($100m), and 66 billionaires. The city has seen a 45% increase in its millionaire population over the past year alone, making it not only the richest but one of the fastest-growing hubs on the planet for high-net-worth individuals.

New York was followed by the San Francisco Bay Area in California and Tokyo. In Europe, London leads with 33 billionaires and 215,700 millionaires, followed by Paris, which has 22 billionaires and 160,100 millionaires.

London saw a 12% decrease in its millionaire population. New York is a global financial hub with over £2.2 trillion in resident-held wealth and is home to major industries like finance, tech, real estate, fashion and media.

The city is home to Wall Street and the world’s biggest stock exchanges and has been the richest city in the world for the last 12 years, except for 2021, when it was overtaken by Beijing.

Dr. Juerg Steffen, CEO of Henley & Partners, said: "These urban centers share common DNA — robust legal frameworks, sophisticated financial infrastructure, and perhaps most critically, investment migration programs that welcome global talent and capital.

"Seven of the Top 10 wealthiest cities are in countries with residence by investment programs, creating direct pathways for entrepreneurs and investors seeking access to these wealth hubs."
