Chile is often thought to be the longest country in the world but these assumptions are wrong, with the record going to a fellow South American country.
Measuring a whopping 2,731 miles long from north to south, Brazil is the longest country in the world.
This forms an enormous triangle on the eastern side of the continent with a 4,654-mile coastline along the Atlantic Ocean.
Chile stretches over 2,670 miles north to south, but it is only 217 miles at its widest point east to west and 40 miles at its narrowest point east to west.

The state of Roraima is the northernmost state in Brazil, it has a 1194-mile border with South American countries.
Rio Grande do Sul is located in the southernmost part of Brazil. It's the fifth-most populated state in Brazil and the ninth-largest by area.
This state is often called the most traditional in Brazil and has a high military reputation.
Roraima and Rio Grande do Su are a whopping 2217 miles away from each other, the quickest way to travel between the two places is via plane, which will take you an astounding eight hours.
Northern Brazil is dominated by the Amazon River, that stretches 4,250 miles, and the jungles that surround it. With its tropical climate and frequent rainfall, temperatures here rarely drop below 30C.
