A landlocked, mountainous country positioned in central Europe boasts an extensive train network that goes through incredible scenic routes. Just under two hours away from the UK, Switzerland is one of the world’s wealthiest countries and has been well-known for centuries for its neutrality.
With towering mountains and deep Alpine lakes, Switzerland is famous for its dramatic mountain scenery, including the iconic Matterhorn and the Swiss Alps. In Switzerland trains are renowned for their punctuality and adherence to schedules, often operating with impressive precision. Locals rarely have to stand on the platform waiting for a delayed or cancelled train.
The trains run like clockwork and cover large swathes of the country, connecting major towns and cities to remote mountainous villages in the alps.
The scenic Swiss rail networks cover breathtaking terrain, dotted with wooden chalets, snowy peaks and mountain-fringed lakes.
Crossing 291 bridges, passing through 91 tunnels and climbing to 2,033 metres at the Oberalp Pass the famous Glacier Express route from Zermatt to St. Moritz is one of Switzerland’s most legendary rail networks.
Crossing the mountains of Piz Bernina to the Matterhorn the line is often called the slowest express train in Europe with the full journey taking around eight hours.

Located at the foot of the Bernese Alps the majestic Jungfrau Region is home to Jungfraujoch often called the "Top of Europe". It is a saddle in the Bernese Alps, connecting the Jungfrau and Mönch peaks.
The Jungfrau train is the highest in Europe, reaching an altitude of 3,454 meters. Meanwhile the scenic Zermatt to Montreux railway route travels along the eastern edge of Lake Geneva before heading to the beautiful vineyards around Aigle.
Taking just two and a half hours the journey picks up the route of the River Rhone at Bex which follows through stunning countryside to Martigny.
