Two teenage boys have been accused of killing and burning the body of a 14-year-old girl in a vicious pre-meditated attack. Gabriel Williams, 16, and Kimahri Blevins, 14, of Pace, Florida, were arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of Danika Troy after she vanished from her home in the US state on November 30.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson told reporters that Danika had been murdered on the night of her disappearance, but her body wasn't found until two days later, in a remote wooded area on December 2. The 14-year-old's corpse was found with gunshot wounds, near several rounds of live ammunition and the remains of a fire, he said at a press conference on Thursday. The alleged killers were schoolmates with Danika but had a "falling out" before Thanksgiving break, Sheriff Johnson said.

The plot to murder her with Williams' mother's handgun was formed after she called him "worthless and a gangbanger" and blocked Blevins on social media, according to Law & Crime.

A witness allegedly told investigators that Blevins had only planned to shoot the teenager once, before Williams escalated the situation, culminating in Danika's body being burned.

A police report obtained by the Pensacola News Journal said "the initial plan was to shoot Danika once, but Gabriel continued to shoot". The witness then alleged that the pair "burned Danika's body and left the area".

Williams' mother reportedly caught him sneaking home on the night of the murder, when he is said to have told her he was out having a cigarette, although she couldn't smell any smoke on him.

Detectives said they are still working to unravel the whole case despite both teenage boys admitting to a "falling out" with their classmate.

"The motive that we're getting doesn't fit the forensics or any facts of the case," Sheriff Johnson said.

"There's not a clear motive, but I can tell you this: we're going to be hopefully working with the State Attorney's office to get these individuals charged as adults.

"You do an adult crime, you need to do adult time. So that's going to be the next effort we're putting forward."

He added that Blevins and Williams have had unspecified previous "run-ins" with the law, and are being held at the Santa Rosa Juvenile Detention Centre without bond.
