Violence in Sudan intensified over the weekend. Since the regular army took control of the capital Khartoum last month, paramilitary forces have stepped up attacks on refugee camps around El Fasher, including Zamzam camp, home to more than half a million refugees, which has been the scene of heavy shelling and gunfire over the past two days.
Also, Gabon's main opposition figure, Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze, has conceded defeat in Saturday's presidential election. He came second with just over 3% of the vote, but criticised the conditions under which his opponent won. The leader of the coup that overthrew the Bongo dynasty, Brice Oligui Nguema, was elected president of Gabon with more than 90% of the vote, according to provisional results.
And sixty languages are spoken in Ivory Coast. But French has been used for education since colonisation, which can make it difficult for some children to learn in class. Now the government is introducing a new programme that mixes local languages. Our team on the ground reports.
