The campaign eventually raised $241,820, surpassing its original goal as residents confronted higher heating costs and reduced federal assistance. The Bangor Daily News reported that the Kings’ contribution came through the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, which has long supported community organisations and social causes in Maine.
