Multiple people are reportedly dead after a shooting in Stade, Germany, on Monday. A major police operation is under way in the Lower Saxony city after officers responded to reports of multiple shots being fired.

Police have described the incident as a "dynamic" situation and urged people to stay away from the area. According to German outlet t-online, citing a police spokesperson, up to five people have been killed. German broadcaster RTL, citing police sources, reported the shooting took place at a youth facility. The motive for the attack remains unclear and investigations are continuing. German newspaper WELT has reported that at least one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police reportedly arrest two people

Two people have been arrested following the fatal shooting in Stade, according to the BBC.

The broadcaster reported that a police spokesperson said one of those arrested is a suspect.

The Express has contacted local force Polizeiinspektion Stade for confirmation.

Local reports centre on youth centre

German media reports differ on the exact location of the shooting.

Earlier, German broadcaster RTL, citing police sources, reported the shooting took place at a youth facility. However, German newspaper BILD has since reported that the crime scene is in the immediate vicinity of a youth centre.

Police have not yet officially confirmed whether the shooting happened inside or near the youth centre.

Police confirm 5 people have died in a shooting

Police said Five people have been killed in a shooting in the northern German town of Stade.

German news agency dpa, citing police, reported that a suspect had been arrested.

Officers said they were carrying out a major operation in an area outside the town centre.

Motive remains unknown

The motive behind the fatal shooting in Stade has not yet been established.

German news outlets t-online and BILD reported that the reasons for the attack remain unclear as police continue their investigation.

Police giving updates through Whatsapp channel

The Lüneburg Police Directorate has urged people to stay away from the scene as the operation in Stade continues.

In a post on X, the force said:
