Spreading famine puts more of Sudan at risk

At least 40 civilians were killed in El Obeid after Sudan’s paramilitary RSF attacked the North Kordofan capital, local media reported. The assault comes as the two-year war intensifies, with Kordofan and Darfur now the conflict’s epicentre. Last week, the RSF seized El Fasher and advanced into Kordofan. Both El Fasher and Kadugli are now facing famine, according to global hunger monitors.

Also, Ahead of the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, economic shifts on the continent are beginning to emerge. While the US is raising tariffs on African nations, China is eliminating them. A new trade deal between Pretoria and Beijing is set to open up exports of South African stone fruits, providing relief for farmers affected by the termination of the US's African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
