A stunning seaside city boasts a sunswept coastline and a rich history - but doesn't have the crowds of tourists you'll see elsewhere. A Coruña, a port city and municipality in northwest Galicia, faces the Atlantic Ocean and is home to beaches within the city centre and an impressive ancient fishing and trading port.

But while Galicia, an autonomous community in Spain’s northwest, is a hugely popular spot for holidaymakers, this pocket of it is said to go relatively unnoticed. That's according to travel blogger Lee Abbamonte, who singled out the city for praise in an interview with Business Insider. Picking out some hidden gems in the "Big Four" holiday hotspots of Spain, Italy, France, and Greece, he hailed A Coruña as a one of his favourite places to visit, describing it as a "beautiful coastal town that nobody goes to, and it's awesome".

Visitors marvel at the city's stunning architecture, with standouts including Hercules Tower, the oldest known extant Roman lighthouse, and the cobbled charm of churches of the Old Town.

The city is also noted for its galeria facades, particularly around the harbour, for which the city is known as the "crystal" or "glass city".

It's also got a wealth of options for culture buffs, including the Science Museum, and the Fine Arts museum.

The Archaeological museum is also a highlight, located in the San Antón castle, an ancient fortress from the 16th century, as per Tourismo de Galicia.

And perhaps best of all, it has a temperate climate, rising to highs of 16C on average across April, with lows of 10C. By August temperatures can rise as high as 23C.

Galicia has a unique cultural identity shaped by its Celtic roots, historical influences, and language (Galician), which is closely related to Portuguese, with plenty of stunning destinations to explore.

The average flight time from London to A Coruña Airport, formerly known as Alvedro Airport, is around just two hours, according to Skyscanner.

However, according to Flight Connections, the only direct flight currently is from London Gatwick, with flights offered by Vueling.
