Chaos has erupted in Spain this evening as reports suggest a number of people have been struck by a driver outside a football stadium. There are conflicting reports over whether the horrific scenes took place prior to the league match between RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona or after the game at the RCDE Stadium in Cornella-El Prat on the outskirts of Barcelona had kicked off.
Videos posted on social media show the chaotic scenes, with dozens of police officers in attendance. It is not yet known whether there have been any casualties as a result of the incident. Local independent journalist Sergi Marana wrote on X: "The driver of a vehicle has run over several people at the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà-El Prat in the minutes before the League match between RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona."
A woman in an Espanyol shirt with a bloodied face could be seen being escorted from the scene in video footage. The Catalonian regional police wrote on X: "Several people injured near Espanyol stadium after being hit by a vehicle. The situation is controlled and in no case does it pose a risk to people inside the sports venue."
The force added: "The injured people are being treated by emergency services and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested. There is a large police presence in the area."

Other footage shows a white car surrounded by police and fans, being pelted with missiles, before driving into the crowd.
According to SportBible, in the eighth minute of the match, several Espanyol players could be seen in communication with home fans behind the goal, before they then gestured towards the Spanish official, Cesar Grado. Mr Grado then stopped the game before speaking to members of both benches and the police. The game resumed two minutes later.
