THIS is the shocking moment a plane smashes into the runway upside down and explodes in a fireball, leaving two dead.

A light aircraft flipped mid-air just after take off and immediately crashed in Táchira state, Venezuela.

Footage shows the Cheyenne I model plane speeding along the runway at Paramillo Airport, with an audible group of spectators on Wednesday morning.

As soon as the wheels have left the tarmac, the plane begins to flip mid-air – with the pilot unable to regain control.

When almost completely upside-down, it smashes back down nose-first onto the ground.

An explosion erupts from the wreckage as it skids along, to horrified gasps and shrieks from those looking on.

The tragedy struck just after 9:52am, according to local paper El Nacional.

Initial reports suggest the pilot lost control after one of the plane’s tyres burst.

The two victims of the crash, which happened at 9:52am, have been identified as Toni Bortone and Juan Maldonado.

Local sources have said the plane was linked to government activities.

Aviation authorities are working with the military to establish what caused the crash.

They are considering a mechanical malfunction, human error or outside conditions.

There is no official explanation yet.

It came just days after another plane crash also killed two people in Hong Kong when it skidded off the runway into the sea.

The Boeing 747-400 struck a security car before sliding off course and crashing into the water.

Four crew members on board were rescued from the submerged aircraft at Hong Kong International Airport.

The AirACT plane, travelling from Dubai, deployed its inflatable escape slides.

Shocking pictures shows the huge plane partially underwater with its nose and tail sections separated.

A ground staff member was also rescued amid the aviation disaster.
