The Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen has launched strikes on the country’s southern Dali governorate, saying it was targeting separatist forces after their leader fled without boarding a plane scheduled to take him to Riyadh.
The statement early on Wednesday said Aidarous al-Zubaidi, the leader of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), has fled to an unknown destination.
The latest strike came after Yemen’s internationally recognised government said it had asked Riyadh to host a forum to address the southern issue, a move seen as a possible step towards easing the fighting.
