Six people are missing after a small plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. A seven-seater aircraft went down three miles west of Point Point Loma in San Diego. The 1970 Cessna 414 disappeared at around 12:45pm on Sunday after it left for Phoenix from San Diego Airport. A recovery mission from the Coast Guard has found a debris field and an oil slick.
A helicopter, plane, cutter and two small boats continue to search the area as the passengers are yet to be found. An investigation has now opened by the National Transportation Safety Board. One witness told local media that they saw the plane “come down at an angle”.
“The next time he came out of the clouds, he went straight into the water. But after I saw this splash, about six seconds later, it was dead silent,” he added. “I knew that they went in the water, nose first, at high speed.”
The plane is reported to be owned by Optimal Health Systems, a vitamin and supplements company in Arizona. However, it is currently not known if any of the passengers onboard were members of staff.
