Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the long-time former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed in Libya.
Ahmed Khalifa, an Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent in Libya, said on Tuesday that Gaddafi is believed to have shot and killed in the western Libyan city of Zintan, where he has been based for the past decade.

The killing of the 53-year-old was confirmed by his political adviser, Abdullah Othman, but the attackers and circumstanes of the killing are as yet unknown. Authorities in Libya are yet to comment.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi never had an official position in Libya, but was considered to be his father’s number two from 2000 to 2011. That was the year the Libyan opposition killed Muammar Gaddafi, toppling his regime.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was initially imprisoned in Zintan in 2011, before being released in 2017.
