Aryna Sabalenka sealed back-to-back titles at Flushing Meadows by seeing off Amanda Anisimova in straight sets (6-3, 7-6) on Saturday evening. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, are preparing to face off in a Grand Slam final for the third time this season on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal to a 5-0 win over Armenia in their World Cup qualifying opener, with the 40-year-old scoring a double to take his international goals tally to no less than 140. England remained unbeaten in Group K after an unconvincing 2-0 win against Andorra in Birmingham.

Over in Spain, Marc Soler emerged from the breakaway to win stage 14 of the Vuelta, as Jonas Vingegaard remained in the overall lead with a 48-second advantage over João Almeida. 

Finland produced a major upset by knocking out the EuroBasket favourites Serbia in their last 16 clash, with Lauri Markkanen leading the way in their 92-86 victory.
