A Russian medic was doused in petrol and set on fire by his commanders after he allowed injured soldiers to seek treatment at a hospital. The shocking revelation came from a soldier serving in Russia's 164th Motorised Rifle Brigade.

Yegor Vladimirovich Korotkiy has fled his unit and gone into hiding, but posted a video in which he recounted the horrific treatment of soldiers by their superiors. Korotkiv and his comrades took part in an attack that quickly went badly wrong and led to high casualties. His unit came under intense artillery and drone fire as they tried to move forward towards the Ukrainian lines.

"The tank started firing at us, the mortar started firing, and the birds [drones] started firing," he recalled.

However, they were unable to retreat due to the presence of barrier troops in their rear. These so-called "blocking troops" are under orders to shoot anyone retreating or trying to desert.

"They shouted, 'Only forward and forward'. After which they shot us. They shot practically all the men who were there.

"There were a lot of bodies lying around, and no one's even collecting them. Headless, armless, legless."

Korotkiy and other wounded soldiers were later given permission slips to get hospital treatment.

However, the decision did not go down well with the unit commanders, who decided to punish the chief medical officer in a particularly gruesome way.

"They eliminated our chief medical officer, who was worried about our lives and health," he said.

They burned him alive after pouring petrol over him, according to Korotkiy.

"We found the body around 3 am in a burned-out Kamaz truck," he said.

"They killed everyone who signed our leave slips at the hospitals so they could send us to the front lines."
