Ukraine's Army has inflicted catastrophic losses on Russian forces attempting to capture a key village on the Donetsk front, Ukrainian sources have claimed.
Over the last year, Russian commanders have been desperately trying to take control of the village of Terny.
The village is an important staging post on the way to Lyman.
Capturing the settlement would allow Putin's army to secure its flanks and open the road to the urban centre several kilometres away.
Russian commanders sent small infantry groups day and night to attack the heavily fortified Ukrainian lines around the village in the hope of achieving a breakthrough.

However, these detachments must cross over 10 kilometres of open fields to reach the Ukrainian lines.
The Russian troop movements are picked up by Ukrainian drone operators, who then direct fire on their enemy.
As a result, the Russians suffer disastrous casualties before they even have a chance to reach the front line.
Video footage shows the carnage wreaked by Vampire drones on Russian military convoys in the area.
Roads are cluttered with the burnt-out wrecks of Russian trucks and military vehicles.
Further clips shot by drones show Russian convicts desperately trying to seek cover.
The convicts have neither body armour, rifles or helmets and are being sent forward by their callous commanders to draw Ukrainian fire.
They are followed by small detachments of trained Russian soldiers, who are then clinically picked off by Ukrainian drones.
One Russian soldier filmed his approach to the front line, showing the horrific price paid by his comrades.

As he makes his way through a tree line, he passes by dozens of bodies of fallen soldiers, rotting away.
He remarks on the terrible smell of the decaying bodies and describes the scene as being like straight out of a horror movie.
Overall, Putin's army has lost over 1,000 soldiers in recent assaults on the village, according to Ukrainian media.
Despite being outnumbered 5 to 1, Ukraine's 60th Separate Mechanised Brigade has effectively held its line.
