Volodymyr Zelensky revealed Russians forces had fired over 400 drones and more than 40 missiles - including ballistic missiles - on Ukraine.

Explosions ripped through the Kyiv skyline and air defences could be seen firing near the giant Mother Ukraine statue.

Vladimir Putin has barbarically continued to target innocent civilians - despite claiming he wants peace.

Zelensky said: "Russia doesn't change its stripes – another massive strike on cities and ordinary life.

"I thank our warriors for their defense. But unfortunately, not all were intercepted.

"Russia must be held accountable for this."

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed four had died and said 20 were injured in the city.

In Solomyanskyi district, a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 16-story residential building.

Emergency services evacuated three people from the apartment, and rescue operations were ongoing.

Another fire broke out in a metal warehouse after.

In northern Chernihiv region, a Shahed drone exploded near an apartment building, shattering windows and doors, according to regional military administration chief Dmytro Bryzhynskyi.

He added that explosions from ballistic missiles were also recorded on the outskirts of the city.

Ukraine also attacked Russia overnight, with the Russians claiming to have shot down 174 drones.

That was not all of them - as a huge explosion tore through Bryansk airport.

Zelensky's full statement following attack

Russia doesn`t change its stripes – another massive strike on cities and ordinary life.

They targeted almost all of Ukraine – Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Kyiv, Sumy, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions.

Some of the missiles and drones were shot down. I thank our warriors for their defense. But unfortunately, not all were intercepted.

In total, over 400 drones and more than 40 missiles – including ballistic missiles – were used in today’s attack.

49 people were wounded. Unfortunately, the number may increase – people are reaching out for help.

As of now, three deaths have been confirmed – all of them were employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

My sincere condolences to their families. All the necessary services are now on the ground, clearing the rubble and conducting rescue operations.

All damage will definitely be restored.

Russia must be held accountable for this.

Since the first minute of this war, they have been striking cities and villages to destroy life.

We’ve done a lot together with the world to enable Ukraine to defend itself.

But now is exactly the moment when America, Europe, and everyone around the world can stop this war together by pressuring Russia.

If someone is not applying pressure and is giving the war more time to take lives – that is complicity and accountability. We must act decisively.

Shocked locals recorded a huge explosion at the airstrip - with Russian bloggers speculating the missile was a German-supplied Taurus.

Ukraine also hit Rosreserv Kristall fuel storage depot in the city of Engels - a key supplier of fuel to Engels bomber base.

A huge blaze could be seen at the depot deep inside Russia.

The nighttime attack came hours after US President Donald Trump said it might be better to let Ukraine and Russia fight for a while.

The President has been so far unsuccessful on getting the two countries to agree to peace - with Moscow not moving on its demands.

Trump spoke as he met with Germany's new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, who appealed to him as the key person in the world who could halt the bloodshed by pressuring Putin.

The American has also hailed Ukraine's daring Operation Spiderweb attack as "strong and badass".

The US president heaped praise on Volodymyr Zelensky for his calculated drone assault attack - but warned it has only made Vlad crazier.

The Kremlin dictator held a 75 minute phone call with Trump on Wednesday as they discussed rising tensions in Ukraine.

Top of the agenda was reportedly the 117 drone blitz over the weekend which left four of Russia's key airbases up in flames.

The daring Operation Spiderweb saw a fired up Ukraine wreck 41 Russian planes across the strategic airfields.

Putin's doomsday bomber fleet was crippled with a third of his most prized aircraft lying in smouldering wrecks.

Russia's ambassador in London pinned some of the blame for the attack on Britain.

Moscow diplomat Andrei Kelin said that Ukrainian attacks "are bringing the conflict to a different level of escalation".

Russian ambassador to the UK Kelin warned that Kyiv shouldn't "try to engulf World War Three" in an interview with Sky News.

He also seemingly blamed the UK for potentially providing Ukraine with weaponry that could have been used during the weekend attacks.

Putin is now said to be plotting his revenge for the stunning sabotage strike, telling Trump he will have to respond.
