Flight traffic at Reagan Airport was halted "because of a bomb threat against a United Airlines plane", impacting over 190 flights, Reuters reports.
Passengers were removed from the plane and the airport distanced from the terminal while the threat was assessed. A source said a bomb threat had been made against the plane and as a cautionary measure, it was being checked.
Reagan Airport lies just five miles from the White House, where the FAA imposes special airspace security restrictions.
A United Airlines plane was grounded at Reagan Airport because of "a bomb threat on a flight", CNN reports.
"All flights in and out of Reagan National Airport are currently halted due to a bomb threat on a flight," a source told the news outlet.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) said: "The FAA is aware of a reported security issue on an aircraft at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Passengers have been removed and the aircraft is away from the terminal while authorities investigate. Monitor http://fly.faa.gov for updates."
Reagan Airport confirms all flight operations are on hold
Reagan Airport in DC has confirmed that "all flight operations are being held" while passengers are "offloaded" from a plane and "bussed to a terminal".
All flight operations are being held at Reagan National while passengers on a United Airlines flight are being offloaded and bussed to the terminal. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
All departing flights at the airport were paused at 11:18 am ET, and the stoppage is being enforced until 1:30 pm.
