All flights have been grounded at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in the US after a reported bomb threat.

Departing flights were paused at 11:18 am ET, and the stoppage is being enforced until 1:30 pm.

The airport said in a statement that passengers were evacuated from a stationary United Airlines plane and "bussed to the terminal".

"We will provide more information as it becomes available," a spokesperson added.

Where was the reported bomb threat?

According to reports, United Airlines flight UA512 arriving from Houston was the subject of a bomb threat upon landing at Reagan Airport.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 was moved away from the terminal area and passengers were evacuated before police launched an investigation of the aircraft.

Over 190 flights halted after 'bomb threat'

Flight traffic at Reagan Airport was halted "because of a bomb threat against a United Airlines plane", impacting over 190 flights, Reuters reports.

Passengers were removed from the plane and the airport distanced from the terminal while the threat was assessed. A source said a bomb threat had been made against the plane and as a cautionary measure, it was being checked.

Reagan Airport lies just five miles from the White House, where the FAA imposes special airspace security restrictions.

Terrifying moment pilot learned of bomb threat

The pilot of United flight 512 from Houston was told of "an unconfirmed bomb report" on the plane, a recording obtained by WRC-TV reveals.

In the clip, the pilot was told by air traffic control: "I'm sorry to have to do this to you. We've got to turn you again, sir.

"We have an unconfirmed bomb report for your flight. We've got to get you away from the airport. Make a 180, taxi 'Mike' and hold short Runway 1."

The controller could then be heard saying "I'm sorry, guys," and the pilot responding: "No worries".

Plane grounded because of 'bomb threat'

A United Airlines plane was grounded at Reagan Airport because of "a bomb threat on a flight", CNN reports.

"All flights in and out of Reagan National Airport are currently halted due to a bomb threat on a flight," a source told the news outlet.

A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) said: "The FAA is aware of a reported security issue on an aircraft at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Passengers have been removed and the aircraft is away from the terminal while authorities investigate. Monitor http://fly.faa.gov for updates."
