Recall alert: 43,674 light-up children’s toys sold for $1 from 2016 to 2026 are being recalled due to ingestion and chemical burn risk

Children’s toys are designed to attract attention with bright colours, sounds and lights, but some of those features can also introduce safety risks. On September 24, 2026, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of approximately 43,674 light-up children’s toys because their battery compartments do not meet mandatory safety requirements.The recalled products include light-up glasses, crown headbands, sparkle headbands and light-up ties. They were sold for around $1 between September 2016 and May 2026 at ABC Trading stores in Los Angeles, California, as well as other speciality stores across the US and online at abctradinginc.com.According to the CPSC, the toys contain button cell batteries in compartments that can be opened by children without the use of a tool. This violates the mandatory federal safety standard for toys containing button or coin batteries.Button cell and coin batteries can pose a particularly serious danger if swallowed by a child.
