A pilot in Putin's air force carried out a devastating bomb attack on a Russian village, almost completely flattening it in the process. Karyzh village is located on the bank of the Seym River, 7 kilometres from the Russian-Ukrainian border in the Kursk region.
Ukrainian forces seized a large chunk of Kursk last August in a lightning offensive that stunned the Kremlin. Although Russian forces, aided by a contingent of North Korean soldiers, managed to recapture most of the territory in the early spring, Ukraine insists some of its units still have a footprint in the region. A Russian plane dropped a bomb on a village on its side of the border, in what appears to be a major blunder.

The blast wave from the explosion destroyed almost the entire settlement, wiping out at least ten houses.
Video images shot presumably by a local show the devastating damage to the buildings in the tiny village. Only parts of the walls and foundations remain, with a huge crater also visible on the main road leading through the settlement.
Russian pilots have often been accused of bombing their own towns and cities in the border region. A document compiled by city officials from Belgorod's emergency services department in the Kursk region records 38 such incidents between April 2023 and April 2024.
The bombings are believed to be caused by defective munitions and poor maintenance.
Ruslan Leviev, a military expert with the Conflict Intelligence Group, told the Washington Post: "A certain percentage of Russian bombs is defective.

"We think these accidental releases are caused by the unreliability of these kits, something that does not seem to bother the Air Force."
It comes as Ukrainian drones destroyed a key transport bridge in the Belgorod region, detonating Russian TM-62 mines stored under the structure.
Video images recorded by a reconnaissance drone capture the moment of the spectacular explosion, leaving the bridge in ruins.
The stash of mines can be clearly seen as the kamikaze drone approaches its target. Further footage shows a massive explosion erupting from the bridge, throwing up a gigantic ball of flames and smoke.
