Port Houston donates $500,000 to 32 nonprofits for community programmes

Port Houston has awarded $500,000 in Community Grants to 32 organisations serving communities across the Houston Ship Channel region. The funding will support programmes ranging from workforce training and STEM education to healthcare access, food assistance, environmental projects and neighbourhood improvements. According to Port Houston press release distributed via Business Wire, the latest grant cycle attracted 194 applications requesting more than $6.6 million, highlighting the scale of demand for community investment. Nearly half of the funding awarded this year is dedicated to workforce development, with supported programmes helping students explore career paths, earn industry-recognised credentials and develop skills for maritime, logistics and industrial careers. Since launching the Community Grants Programme in 2020, Port Houston has invested more than $2.15 million in local organisations.
