Police and firefighters deployed outside Aldi in city centre as truck overturns

A truck overturning just outside an Aldi store prompted emergency services to descend on a city centre. Everyone involved had a lucky escape in the incident which happened shortly after 9am earlier today. 

The lorry toppled over onto a luckily empty footpath outside the Aldi after taking the corner on Eglington Street in Cork. As a precaution, the driver was checked over by the ambulance at the scene but managed to escape the crash without any serious injuries.

Irish firefighters and the Garda arrived minutes after the incident. The footpath in Albert Street was cordoned off by officers, with teams later waiting at the site for a crane to come and remove the vehicle.

The fire service confirmed that Albert Street will remain reduced to one lane as the operation to recover the lorry is underway.

Speaking to Cork Beo, a firefighter at the scene said: "It was a single vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 9am today.

“The truck was loaded with steel and overturned while taking the bend - thankfully, no injuries were reported. The driver was assessed by members of the National Ambulance Service.

"They are now waiting on a crane to remove the vehicle."

Confirming to Cork Beo, a Garda spokesperson added: "Gardaí are currently attending a traffic collision that occurred in Cork City this morning, 13th of November 2025. At approximately 9:20am a truck overturned on Eglinton Street.

"The road is currently reduced to one lane with traffic management in place. No injuries have been reported. No further information is available at this time."
