Police swarmed a street near a polling station after an explosion was heard in Catasauqua.

Pennsylvania State Police say they are investigating a report of an “unknown explosive device” being thrown from a vehicle near a polling location. Local reports also mentioned a “sort of explosion” near the vehicle in the area of the Salem United Church of Christ.

State police said nobody was injured and there is no threat to the public. Officers were called to Third Street at around 9.12 am US time. A police cordon was set up in the area and fire crews also attended.

An investigation in ongoing, police said, and roads in the area have been closed. Despite the incident, the nearby polling station did not close and voters can still take part in the Pennsylvania primary elections, officials said.

Police also issued a message encouraging people to go out and exercise their right to vote confirming the nearby polling station has not been closed.

Scott Tobey, a resident who was there to vote, told NBC he heard the noise before he headed out on Tuesday morning. "I heard a large explosion earlier this morning and I kind of didn't think about it until I saw all this," he said.
