Thick black smoke is billowing across southern Paris after a major fire broke out in Clamart. Footage shows flames tearing through the Hunebelle stadium, which is currently under construction.
Residents reported hearing loud explosions shortly before the blaze erupted. The smoke column is visible for miles, including from Montparnasse in central Paris. Emergency crews are on site, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Nevertheless, one social media user posting on X shared dramatic footage, commenting: "Here's the cause of the fire: a complex that was undergoing construction caught fire!
"The explosions were linked to gas cylinders!"
Another shared a clip of crowds watching as thick smoke billowed into the sky, with a fire engine in the background.
Footage was also shared by French broadcaster BFMTV.
French assembly member Jean-Didier Berger, also posting on X, said: "A fire was brought under control this afternoon on part of the Hunebelle stadium construction site at #clamart.
"One of the roofs was damaged as its waterproofing was being completed.
"Thanks to@PompiersParis.
"There were no injuries and the damage was limited, the nature of which will be assessed."
