Tourists have been evacuated from a hotel in Majorca after a fire reportedly erupted in a machine room. Several people were also trapped in a lift as a result of the flames. Spanish media reported the fire broke out at about 9.30am local time (8.30am BST) on Friday (August 29) when smoke was seen coming from one of the hotel's rooms.
Firefighters from stations in Alcudia, Inca and Artà rushed to the Club Bellevue complex in Puerto Alcudia, where at the time of writing they were still trying to rescue people from the lift and put out the fire.
Spanish daily Ultima Hora described hotel guests waiting to be rescued from their balconies as the blaze spread through a building. Local police and officers from Spain's Civil Guard have also arrived at the scene, according to the same publication.
Majorca Daily Bulletin reported that several people were trapped in the lift after the fire started at a building at the Club Bellevue complex in Puerto Alcudia.
Citing sources from Majorca Fire Brigade, the same publication said the fire started in the machine room. It said 100 people have moved onto balconies in a building named Leda for safety reasons.

Police have reportedly said there were no injuries, but 18 people required medical attention. Sixteen of those were tourists and two were hotel workers.
Two girls, aged 13 and 8, were taken to Muro General Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin. The remainder were treated at the scene and their conditions have been described as "mild".
Puerto Alcudia is a popular resort and port town in northeast Majorca. It is famed for its beaches and water sports. It also has a large marina.
