Tourists have been warned over common "cons" targeting British holidaymakers - including a key ice cream detail to look out for. Mainland Europe is home to some of the world's most popular tourist destinations, with millions of Britons making tens of millions of trips to the continent every year.
But in some particularly touristy areas, visitors can fall prey to overpriced and shoddy products sold by street sellers, and miss out on enjoying the best these travel hotspots have to offer. There are a number of things that sunseekers should look out for to avoid being ripped off on their travels, warning those on getaways to the Italian capital Rome to be wary of some gelato-sellers.
Food news website The Kitchn.com explains that classic Italian gelato is "churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air and leaving the gelato denser than ice cream".
But some people are said to get stuck with a poorer option as they explore the romantic city.

This could result in tourists not being offered the real deal when it comes to the famous Italian delicacy. If the colours are particularly bright on the gelato then tourists should be aware - they might look good in photos but classic gelatos should be paler, due to not having artificial colours and flavouring.
Meawhile in Greece, Brits are being warned over " bad buskers" in the country's capital Athens - where local grifters are attempting to trick tourists into parting with cash.

The con sees unsuspecting visitors walking by then accidently knock over a plastic cup with cash which is purposefully placed far in front of the musician, after which they can be told that money has been lost as they look for a larger contribution as compensation.
Clever schemes targeting tourists can be found in most travel hotspots, including the UK. However, with some awareness and handy tips, you can enjoy your holiday without falling into some of the more common traps.
