POLICE are investigating the mystery death of a British cyclist found dead while on holiday with his partner in the Canary Islands.
The unnamed 55-year-old was discovered by a walker lying next to his bike on a road in Lanzarote after he went out for a ride.
He was found dead on a stretch of Calle Vicente Guerra Street - between the village of Guatiza and the Spanish island’s east coast.
The walker raised the alarm just after midday and emergency services rushed to the scene, but tragically could do nothing to save the holidaymaker.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His partner was waiting at their hotel for him to get back from the bike ride, and has received the tragic news.
The cause of his death is now being investigated by the Civil Guard.
Cops say there were no immediate signs of any injuries to suggest he had been struck by a car.
They are considering the possibility that he suffered a sudden medical problem whilst cycling and was unable to find help in time.
It's not currently clear whether he had his mobile with him.
Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to shed some light on his final moments.
A spokesperson for the local emergency services said they received a call at around 12:45pm about an unconscious man, and that two ambulances rushed to the scene.
