Israeli police reported an "impact" near the country's main international airport, after the army said it had attempted to intercept a missile launched from Yemen on Sunday.

Yair Hezroni, the police's central district chief, said at the scene in a video released by the force that "you can see the area just behind us: a crater was formed here, several dozen metres (yards) wide and several dozen metres deep". A police statement said there was a "missile impact".

Flights resumed at Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport after a brief interruption, the airport authority said in a statement.

"Departures and arrivals have resumed" and the airport "is open and operational", the statement said.

Israel's defence minister threatened on Sunday a forceful response to a missile fired from Yemen that the army said impacted near the country's main international airport.

"Anyone who hits us, we will hit them seven times stronger," Israel Katz said in a statement.
