A married and pregant music teacher at an exclusive private school has been charged with the sexual abuse of a child. The 33-year-old has been charged with multiple child sex offenses, including allegedly abusing a male student.

She was also charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child aged over 13, but under 16, and faces additional charges of possessing child exploitation material as well as undertaking persistent sexual conduct with a child. Naomi Tekea Craig is alleged to have carried out the offences between 2024 and 2025, with her school's principal confirming her arrest to parents on Tuesday. The letter said: "I regret to inform you that a teacher from our school has been arrested by police and charged with child-related offences not involving any current student".

Ms Craig worked as a music teacher at the fee-paying school, and it was reported that she had gone on maternity leave, pregnant with her second child, due later in the month. She has been ordered not to attend the school, with parents informed that "there is no need for concern" for any current pupils.

Frederick Irwin Anglican School, the $8,320 a year establishment in Australia, is reportedly one of the most exclusive schools in the region. It offers a wide spanning music course, with Year 8 kids expected to study it.

Parents reacted with shock on social media, with one reportedly writing that she was a "fantastic music teacher" but that her alleged actions had left them "in shock".

A local Police Force spokesperson said protecting children is their main priority. They said: "The WA Police Force acknowledges reports of offences against children are deeply distressing for the community [...] specialist detectives and support services are working tirelessly to investigate these matters and provide care for victims."

Frederick Irwin Anglican School has not commented further beyond the letter sent to parents confirming the arrest.

Under Australian law, sexual penetration of a child under 16 carries significant prison sentences, while possession of child exploitation material is also a serious criminal offence. Craig is due to appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27.
