Man arrested after three stabbed at Swiss train station

A man stabbed and wounded three people at a Swiss train station, police said.

The attack happened shortly after 8.30am in Winterthur, in northeastern Switzerland.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Swiss man, has been arrested not long after the stabbings. His motive is being investigated, the regional police said.

The three victims - all Swiss, are aged between 28, 43 and 52 - and have been taken to nearby hospitals.

One of them suffered serious injuries, while the other two sustained 'moderate injuries', according to local media reports.

Swiss newspaper Blick said it obtained a video showing a man running out of the station concourse shouting "Allahu Akbar", an Arabic phrase meaning God is great.

A witness told the paper the man held a knife, with people around him screaming and running away.

Blick said the incident prompted a major police operation.

Winterthur, near Switzerland's biggest city, Zurich, is home to about 123,000 people.
