A popular Spanish island loved by Brits is home to a number of beaches that sometimes appear pink depending on the lighting. Although Majorca may not have inherently pink-hued shores like Indonesia, or the Bahamas, it has its own visual phenomenon attracting tourists and locals alike. Sometimes certain coves display reddish or pinkish tones in their sand, especially under specific lighting conditions.
Beaches such as Cala Torta, Cala Agulla, and Cala Varques on the northeast and east coasts of the island are where you can observe this unique effect. Although the sand itself isn't actually pink, the combination of marine sediments, minerals, and sunlight interacting with the landscape creates a warm appearance reminiscent of the famous pink beaches of the eastern Mediterranean.
Did you know there are pink beaches in Mallorca? Yup, this dreamy spot is Cala Agulla, and depending on the light, the sand here takes on the softest pink hue especially at sunrise or sunset. But why is the beach pink? Pink beaches usually get their color from tiny fragments of coral, shells, or red marine organisms mixed into the sand. In Cala Agullas case, its a combination of light minerals, sun reflection, and a touch of sea magic that gives it that blush glow. Its subtle, its rare, and its right here in Mallorca. #PinkBeach#MallorcaMagic#HiddenGems#TravelInspiration#beachvibes
This phenomenon, which occurs mainly during peak sunlight or sunset, is neither permanent nor consistent, but its beauty inspires photos and social media posts using hashtags such as #PinkBeachMajorca.
Coastal geology experts explained that, unlike naturally pink sand beaches, where the colour is a result of crushed coral, this effect is due to the composition of the sand grains and organic marine debris carried in by the tides.
While not a unique global phenomenon, it adds another attraction to Majorca's diverse array of coastal landscapes.
For those who dream of a "pink beach," these coves offer a unique, local, naturally spectacular version.

A pink sand beach was also named the best in the world according to Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards for the Best of the Best Beaches.
The 2025 list spans six continents, celebrating everything from serene waters and white sands to dramatic cliffs and vibrant marine life.
Known for its pink sand, crystal-clear shallow waters, and scenic, remote location on Crete’s southwest coast, Elafonissi Beach was crowned the best beach for its breathtaking beauty and is said to have fewer crowds in May and September.
The incredible pink sand is natural and made from tiny seashells and the pigmented microorganisms in the lagoon, which create this unique colour.
