The Israeli military said on Friday that the Gaza ceasefire agreement went into effect at midday local time (0900 GMT), adding that troops "began positioning themselves along the updated deployment lines". US officials earlier confirmed that a 200-member US military team will be deployed to the region to help oversee the deal's implementation. Follow our liveblog for all the latest.

  • US President Donald Trump said that no one in Gaza would be forced to leave the territory under his peace plan, after Israel and Hamas signed off on the first phase of the deal.

  • Exiled Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya said the group has received guarantees from the United States, Arab mediators and Turkey that the war on Gaza has permanently ended.

  • Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said on Thursday that no Palestinian accepts disarming and Palestinians were in need to weapons and resistance.
