Kylian Mbappé scored the only goal of the game from a second-half penalty as France beat Paraguay in a cagey Round of 16 tie in Philadelphia on Saturday. Les Bleus will take on Morocco in the quarter-finals on Thursday in Boston.

Earlier on, the Atlas Lions swiped away a first-half challenge from Canada to emerge 3-0 victors in their own last 16 match in Houston, with Azzedine Ounahi netting a brace.

Jonas Vingegaard drew first blood at this year's Tour de France, as the Dane and his teammates won the time trial curtain-raiser in Barcelona on Saturday. Reigning champion Tadej Pogacar is in third place after the first stage.

There were a couple of shocks in the women's draw at Wimbledon, as both reigning champion Iga Swiatek and world number two Elena Rybakina were knocked out in straight sets in the third round.
