President Donald Trump on Tuesday floated the idea of renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Canada.“The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to be doing much business with Ontario any longer,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.Later that morning, he shared on social media an image of a map depicting the lake, with a red X over “Lake Ontario” and the words “Lake America” above it in large gold letters next to a U.S. flag.Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes in North America, which together compose the largest freshwater system in the world.
