The Kremlin claimed on Monday to have received no official information on the Ukraine peace talks taking place in Geneva. There are also no plans for Russian and US delegations to meet this week, it added in an update. "No, we have not received any information [on the talks] yet," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Of course, we are closely monitoring the media reports that have been abundant over the past few days, including from Geneva. But officially, we have not received anything yet." A telephone call between Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, is planned for today, Mr Peskov added. Erdogan is to propose Istanbul as a location for possible Russia-Ukraine talks, according to Turkish media.

It was only yesterday when Donald Trump lashed out at Ukraine's leaders as a US-backed peace plan is failing to gain traction in Kyiv and among Volodymyr Zelensky's European allies.

Taking to his Truth Social media platform, the US President launched a scathing attack on the Ukrainian leadership, saying that the country has “expressed zero gratitude” for the US’s efforts, while also slamming Europeans for the use of Russian oil and gas.

He posted: "Ukraine's leadership has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia.”

It comes amid signs Britain and Europe forced some concessions into the 28-point US peace proposal amid a gathering in Geneva.

Chief Ukrainian negotiator Andriy Yermak called the meeting “very productive” and thanked Trump for his efforts “to bring this peace.”

United States and Ukraine said in a joint statement after the talks that they had drafted a "refined peace framework," although they did not provide specifics.

US secretary of state Marco Rubio said it had been “probably the most productive and meaningful meeting so far in this entire process”.

He said the teams are now working on suggestions and “making some changes” in the hope of “narrowing the differences” between the US and Ukraine.

It remains unclear how Europe’s drafted proposal would guarantee Ukraine’s security against Russia. Alexander Stubb, Finland’s president, said on Monday that “major issues” remain unsolved.

The grim reality of war continues to cast a bleak cloud over Ukraine as Russian forces kept up their devastating strikes on civilian areas.

Just last night, Russia resumed its nighttime drone attacks on Ukraine’s civilian and port infrastructure just several hundred yards from allied territory, with NATO forced to scramble warplanes for the second time in three nights.
