A multi-storey building under construction has collapsed in Nairobi, with at least four people feared to be trapped beneath the rubble. While the cause is yet to be confirmed, building collapses are common in Nairobi, where poor construction standards and weak regulation have long been blamed. A report by the National Construction Authority found that 58% of buildings in Nairobi are unfit for habitation. Rescue teams are on site as families plead for efforts to reach survivors to be sped up.
At least seven people have drowned and many more are missing after a boat carrying around 200 migrants capsized off the coast of The Gambia. Another departure point for that same route is Guinea. As controls tighten in Senegal and Mauritania, more boats are setting off from their coasts on a longer, riskier journey with greater exposure to the open ocean. There are growing fears that this shift could make the route even deadlier.
After a short break, the players will return to the field tomorrow for the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations. The first Round of 16 match kicks off in Tangiers, with Senegal playing Sudan.
