At least 12 people have died and nine others were injured in a shooting in Johannesburg, South Africa. The shooting erupted at Jumpers Informal Settlement in Cleveland at around 11.10pm local time on Tuesday, according to police.

Among the fatalities are eight men and three women, all declared dead at the scene, and another man who died to his injuries in hospital, officials said.

No arrests have been made so far

According to the police, more than 10 heavily armed men attacked Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland at around 11.10pm on Tuesday,

However, no arrests have been made yet. Officer are searching for the attackers.

Police issues statement

South Africa police said in a statement: "It is alleged that more than 10 suspects were dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum near a petrol station in Cleveland.

"The suspects allegedly entered the informal settlement through both entrances and moved through the area, opening fire on residents and community members at multiple locations before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle."
