Favourites Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz made a strong start at the French Open with straight-sets wins in the first round, while world No. 4 Taylor Fritz is already out.

In the women’s draw, Caroline Garcia, who will retire this year, bid farewell to the French Open with a first-round loss. Meanwhile, three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek opened her tournament with a solid win.

In football, Cristiano Ronaldo scored in his final match for Saudi club Al-Nassr, while Carlo Ancelotti announced his first squad as Brazil’s head coach. His replacement at Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso, was officially presented in the Spanish capital.
