US President Donald Trump has again threatened Iran shortly before posting an image of him hitting a big, red button.
The US and Iran have been in conflict since February 28. The two countries have not agreed upon a long-term solution to end the war that has rocked global markets and disrupted the Middle East.
Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, May 17: "For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! President DJT"
This was followed hours later by an AI image of the US leader pushing what appears to be a nuclear button, while mushroom-shaped plumes are shown on screens behind Trump.
This is an ongoing event and updates will be provided.
US foreign policy think tank: Trump 'seriously considering' further military action
Executive vice president of the US foreign policy think tank Quincy Institute, Trita Parsi, has said that both Iran and the US appear increasingly convinced that another round of conflcit could help them in future talks.
“I think [Trump] is seriously considering taking additional military action," he told Al Jazeera news agency.
“It is, in and of itself, a clear indication that, despite the rhetoric coming from the administration, they recognise that not only was the previous war a failure, but also that the blockade of the blockade – which was supposed to break the Iranians and avoid this scenario – was also a failure."
A senior Pakistani minister has flown to Iran to "faciliate" peace talks between the US and Iran, semi-official Iranian media reports.
