The regime is trying to violently put an end to the protests, which have been raging since late December.

Harrowing videos and reports emerging from Iran suggest the ruling regime continues to try to violently turn the screw on protesters. Dozens of bodies can be seen at the Kahrizak Forensic Medical Centre in Tehran province, as people desperately try to find their loved ones.

A crowd also gathered in front of a monitor showing photos of the dead as their families try to identify them. According to the verified videos obainted by CNN, there could be up to 250 bodies. In another clip, bodies in black bags are lines up on a walkway outside the medical centre as screams and cries ring out.

Iranian state-affiliated media has maintained that the bodies are "ordinary people" who got dragged into the protests.

A video shared by state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency captured grieving family members saying their loved ones were not involved in the demonstrations.

One man said his dead relative was pro-regime and died after being hit in the head with a rock thrown by someone standing at the top of a building. 

The reporter then says those who "aimed to clash" with security forces or "wanted to seize a [military] base or something and may have used arms" are also among the dead, "but most of these people were ordinary people and [their] families are ordinary families".

One of the deceased is 23-year-old Robina Aminian, who was shot in the head on Thursday night.

Two of her family members claimed to Sky News that authorities tried to stop them for claiming her body, but they eventuall managed to take her to the west of the country for a secret burial. 

According to the Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA), 495 protesters and 48 security personnel have been killed since the protests erupted on December 28. 

Crowds of people have been taking to the streets to take action against the regime and its handling of the country's ailing economy. 

In 2025, the national currency, the rial, sunk to a record low, while inflation hit 40% amid sanctions over the country's nuclear programme.
