A 23-year-old man reportedly tried to storm into Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort on Tuesday night (June 3) so he could marry the president's teenage daughter, Kai Madison Trump. Anthony Thomas Reyes tried to scale over the wall of the 62,500-square-foot resort in Palm Beach, Florida, before being swiftly arrested by police, it has been alleged.

Reyes is said to have confessed his admiration for Kai, 18, to police, telling them that he wanted to "spread the gospel" to President Trump. Mr Trump, 78, has been briefed on the incident, according to a White House spokesperson, but was in Washington at the time of the incident. It is not known whether Kai, or anyone else, was in Mar-a-Lago at the time.

Reyes was initially arrested on trespassing charges and given a $1,000 bond. However, according to records from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, this was later raised to $50,000.

This alleged break-in is at least the second time he has been caught trying to get inside the large resort, which boasts 126 rooms on 17 acres of land. He also attempted to get inside on New Year's Eve but failed to access the property, it is alleged.

On this occasion, President Trump and his family were at home.

Reyes's history means that federal charges are likely to follow.
