Indonesians are flocking to theaters to shiver in front of local horror films, the popularity of which has exploded in recent years. The genre dominates Indonesian screens with a majority of productions and box office successes inspired by ghost and monster stories from Southeast Asia. Two years ago, Indonesia even secured a Guinness World Record for the highest proportion of horror films produced, and they are now exporting abroad.
