In 1993, a Bahamas artist turned his home into a giant dolphin-themed museum

For decades, one house in Alice Town, Bimini, has been slowly transformed into something that looks less like a conventional home and more like a walk-in mosaic. Artist Ashley Saunders began building Dolphin House in 1993, using discarded and salvaged objects he found around the island, at sea and at demolition sites. Shells, tiles, bottles, glass floats, coins, mirrors and pieces of marble were worked into the walls, floors and surfaces, turning everyday debris into part of the building itself. Dolphins became a recurring motif after Saunders' encounters with wild dolphins influenced his artistic work.Today, 27 dolphins feature throughout the house, helping give the unusual structure its name.
