How to Help the Victims of Europe’s Deadly Wildfires

Huge wildfires have torn through France and Spain, leaving several people dead and displacing hundreds of thousands of others.The devastating blazes have shattered records for the largest wildfires on record in both countries and impelled what are believed to be the largest peacetime evacuation operations France and Spain have conducted in modern history, driving roughly 330,000 people from their homes and vacation sites.Officials have estimated that more than 400,000 acres have burned in Spain this year and another 300,000 in France amid a series of blistering European heat waves. Firefighters succeeded in containing some of the major blazes in the two countries by Wednesday morning, but with temperatures once again expected to spike this week, authorities cautioned that the battle was not yet over and continued to evacuate thousands of people in threatened regions.The European Union’s emergency response center meanwhile warned that still more countries will confront a heightened wildfire risk in the coming weeks."The next risk, it's already moving to Greece and also Central Europe," Maria Zuber, head of the European Union Emergency Response Coordination Center, told reporters on ...
