A teacher has been arrested after allegedly raping goats. A video posted on social media reportedly shows the 43-year-old man sexually abusing the goats, and he has since been arrested on suspicion of bestiality offences.

He was arrested on Wednesday (July 15) following a police investigation. It is believed the suspect kept herds of goats at his home and recorded the videos himself. He taught at a local high school, and the alleged incident, which took place between April and July this year, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

As reported by IOL, the man taught at Maphovela High School in the village of Odhaleni in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Local media said he raped the goats in the nearby village eSitetemeni where he was well-known within the community.

A resident said: "It is alleged that officials from the SPCA arrived at the police station with video footage showing the suspect sexually abusing goats and requested that a criminal case be opened against him."

The goats that featured in the video are believed to have belonged to the suspect. Local leader Induna Dlamini said the man was born and raised in the village with his family.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal Police, said: "Mahlabathini police arrested a 43-year-old man on charges related to bestiality, animal cruelty and sexual assault.

"It is alleged that the suspect was seen in a video circulating on social media sexually abusing goats. He was later traced and arrested. It is believed the incidents occurred between April and July this year."

Bestiality is a criminal offence under South African law and the suspect faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. In 2022, a man was sentenced to eight years behind bars for sexually abusing his neighbour's dog.
