A British tourist was killed after an off-road tour truck crashed, hitting a tree. The 70-year-old tourist was rushed to hospital following the incident in Kentira, Morocco, on October 30, and spent a fortnight in critical care. But tragically, he died on November 13.

It is believed the vehicle's roof caved in when it struck a tree and crashed into large overhanging branches. The pensioner was reportedly on a £10,000 trip with Leeds-based holiday company Oasis Overland. The holiday package was a pan-African getaway, starting from Fes, in Morocco, and ending in Cape Town, South Africa. Lasting 23 weeks, it costs £10,000. A photo of the custom-built truck showed its metal roof twisted above 24 seats. It is believed to have been driven behind an identical vehicle six miles up the road. It turned back to help following the collision.

"It was a horrible accident and obviously the most tragic outcome for two people to die," a source told The Sun.

"The paramedics, doctors and everyone involved did everything they could to save lives but sadly their injuries were too severe.

"The passengers were effectively crushed by the roof and had nowhere to go."

Survivors are said to have been left "horrified".

The group had set off only a few days earlier, it is understood.

An American tourist also died after the crash, while being transported back to the US in an air ambulance plane. Six others were hurt.

Travel writer Derek English said in a video posted online: "It wasn’t meant to end this way.

"Because of circumstances beyond our control, we’ve decided to pull out of the trip."

An Oasis Overland spokesperson told the newspaper: "We are deeply saddened by the deaths of two guests following a vehicle incident.

"Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of the British citizen aged 70 who died earlier this month, and to the family and friends of the American traveller who passed away earlier this week.

"We continue to support the group who were travelling with them and their immediate contacts.

"We are now awaiting the formal police report before making any further comment."
