A major investigation has been launched after the bodies of a man and a child were found at separate addresses in a major city. Emergency services were called to two homes early this morning as detectives moved swiftly to seal off both scenes.

The grim discoveries were made at properties in west Dublin, prompting a significant response from Gardaí and emergency crews. Officers were first alerted to a domestic residence in the Cherry Orchard area of Ballyfermot at around 8.30am, where the body of a man aged in his 40s was found deceased.

In follow-up enquiries, Gardaí later attended a separate home in Clondalkin, Dublin 22, where the body of a male child was discovered.

Both properties have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.

In a statement, Gardaí confirmed the Coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested. The body of the adult male has been removed to the city morgue, while the child’s body remains at the Clondalkin address.

Post-mortem examinations will be arranged in due course, with the results expected to play a key role in determining the direction of the investigation.

Sources have indicated the deceased are believed to be a father and his young son, though Gardaí have not formally confirmed the relationship.

The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer. No further information is available at this stage.
