Greek police have arrested four people, including the hotel owner and the girl’s uncle.
The tragic incident took place in Lardos, a seaside resort village on October 14.
The child was on holiday with her family and allegedly was left unsupervised.
The girl, who was from Blackpool, was found at the bottom of the hotel swimming pool.
A British doctor dived in to rescue her and performed CPR until the paramedics arrived.
She was taken to the General Hospital of Rhodes where she was intubated.
She was later transferred to Crete before being airlifted back to England.
The girl’s uncle and a 54-year-old travel agency manager responsible for the hotel guest’s were arrested by the police.
They are now facing charges related to the child’s death.
The hotel’s 57-year-old owner and the hotel’s director are also facing similar charges.
An investigation revealed that safety measures at the hotel were minimal.
There was no lifeguard on duty, no rescue equipment or a designated supervisor present.
The solicitor representing the child’s uncle, Antonis Zervos, has insisted that his client “did not see and was not near the child.”
The hotel’s manager has since claimed that the pool is not big enough to require a lifeguard to be present at all times.
Police have seized CCTV footage to determine all the circumstances of the incident.
The alarm was raised by a woman who was lying on a sunbed nearby.
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British child following an incident in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
The investigation is ongoing.
