German police have urged residents to avoid downtown Mannheim after social media reports suggested a car-ramming attack had taken place in the area.

A suspected car-ramming attack has occurred in the German city of Mannheim, according to local media.
DW reports that local media says at least one person was killed as a car drove into a crowd in the city center.
Unconfirmed reports online suggest that "several people" were injured.
Police said: "Due to the police deployment, citizens are asked to avoid Mannheim city centre and to take a wide detour."
Video on social media seems to show people obscuring the view of at least one person injured on the floor with their coats following the suspected attack.
Local outlet MANNHEIM24 suggested a black SUV drove at high speed into a crowd of people.

Photos online have been shared of a warning message on locals' mobile phones.
It reads: "DANGER ANNOUNCEMENT, HIGH

The notification adds that it was issued by Ministry of the Interior Baden-Württemberg by the trigger point state government situation center.
